How music videos appeal to audiences

The idea of music videos is to mainly attract viewers and promote the artist. Music videos use a wide range of techniques to attract different types of audience such as props, costumes, settings and locations. Music videos are created in order to be attracted by a specific audience whether its gender, social class, age or ethnic background. Music videos will always try to appeal to one target audience if not more as they cant appeal to all. For example a young man rapping wouldn't appeal to a 90year old woman in most cases.

Age:
This video appeals to older people and not young people - very dull, no action other then singer singing, peaceful and plain setting with dark colours. smart costume.

Gender:
This video appeals to males more then females - Female artist, revealing costume, sports car, sexual animations, good looking, "the male gaze".
Social Class:
This video appeals to more lower class and working class backgrounds rather then upper class - Tracksuit and caps for costume, hand gestures, location starts off in counselling room, lower class/working class may feel this video describes their situation as may have problems. Rough setting. props - cigarettes.
