RESEARCH - Music Genre

Music is a very broad topic due to all the different sounds and moods it can possibly reflect. There are many different genres which attract different audiences.

A couple of different music genres include:
  •      Hip hop
  •      RnB
  •      Grime/Rap
  •      Pop
  •      Rock
  •      Reggae
  •       Indie
  •       Jazz
  •       Classical

Typical music video conventions vary from genre to genre. In grime videos the setting is commonly external, in the streets or an estate for instance. In hip hop videos there is likely to be expensive cars and female figures being presented in a provacative way. In rock/indie music videos instruments are very important and are focused on in a large number of shots.

Here is an example of a grime video :

in this video you can see conventions being demonstrated; the setting being in the streets/estates. A lot of young people are involved demonstrating what their environment is like. Also, body language has a large impact as the rappers/grime artists very often use hand gestures to express their music.

Here is an example of a hip hop video:

Drake is a very big artist in the US and definitely follows the conventions of a hip hop video. We see expensive cars, clothes and houses. Also, females can be seen towards the end of the video dressed in minimal clothing amongst the other males.
