Goodwin argues that there are three different types of relationships between songs and its video:

1) Illustration: this is where the video tells the story of lyrics. Here is an example of a video that demonstrates this:

2) Amplification: this is when the video adds new meanings which adds layers to the meaning of the lyrics rather than contradicting them. Here is an example:

    3) Disjuncture: this is where there is no connection between the video and the lyrics or where the video contradicts the lyrics. An example of this is:
