EVALUATION 4

WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT FROM AUDIENCE FEEDBACK?

Audience feedback is essential because it is a way to find out what people who you targeted think about your video. It is a way to learn about how you could improve your work in future so it can be a more popular video, it is a way to understand what people think of your video, it is a way to learn about what things people enjoy about your video so you can use similar ideas again in future and also if it meets the needs of our genre.

Issues with final work

On my finished work I noticed that there was some issues because the background of some images on the cover stood out from the original background cover:

Therefore I had to go back onto photoshop and make some changes:

Evaluation - Question 4

What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Audience are the group of people a media product is aimed. Audience feed back is vital for the producers because it is a way to see the reaction of the viewers and also you can find out what they think about the product as well as being able to give constructive criticism or any areas of improvement.   After gathering audiences feed back the producer can analyse it to see what went well and what could be improved for the next project more over the producer can learn if the needs to the audience have been met.

Evaluation - Question 2

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary text?

CD Cover and Magazine ad

Shots from music video

In our music video we had a number of shots including a base track in a greenland theme. unlike the rest of my group who had a black white and grey theme i decided to have a different theme because i felt that it would be to simple. my ancillary products linked to my video as you can see above with the arist singing in a park in addition to the scenery shots the reason for using this aspect in my ancillary is that i think the camera work and edits gave a good visual of these shots which made me want to use this for my CD cover. In our planning stages as a group we decided that a watch would symbolise our artist throughout our project, i used this synergy on my CD cove and magazine ad as you can clearly see his watch on his wrist.

The other group members used a black ad white theme for their ancillary products. i think that both themes work with the music video as it has a mixture of both themes through the base tracks and scenary shots.

Evaluation - Question 2

How effective is the combination of your main product (video) and ancillary texts (digipak and advertisement)?

I think I have linked my music video to my ancillary work extremely well. I incorporated synergy whenever I could. Before creating our music video as a group we decided what synergy we're going to incorporate into our video which included:
  1. Shots of scenery in London, we will be using establishing shots in our music video and we will also be using pictures we have taken of scenery in London on our digipaks.
  2. Black and white theme, in the music video some parts will be black and white and we will be using a black and white theme for our digipaks.
  3. Costume and props, The artist will be wearing casual clothes and also a watch which will be shown on all platforms of production
When creating our music video we made sure we got lots of scenery in London. However when creating my digipak and magazine advert I didn't include any images of London scenery unlike other members in my group. We also didn't really do a black and white theme in our video as there was only one small bit of it that was edited black and white so that idea went straight out the window. Instead we decided to show colour starting from bright colours in the morning and changing to dark colours such as black when it got to the night. This is where I linked the video with my ancillary products - the dark colour scheme, I used a black background for both digipak and my magazine advert and made it all white font. I also incorporated synergy from the morning in the music video where we had shots of sunshine linked with the lyrics I decided to add an image on my digipak of the artist looking at sunshine. When planning out our use of synergy we decided to use casual clothes and this was used throughout the whole video and can also see how I have linked it to my digipak as I have included an image of my artist showing what he is wearing. Other links of synergy I have used include the same image across my digipak and magazine advert to give a clear link of the two, when you see one of the products it makes you think of the other and the artist. Further on the artist is the main link between my media products as I have inserted a large image of him on my ancillary work it clearly makes someone viewing this think of the song he is In. I have added the lyrics of my music video onto my digipak so when you look at the digipak you will  read the lyrics and then think of the song and artist. Other images on my digipak also give a clear link between all products for example in our music video we have a base track of the park and sunshine and on the inside of my digipak I have included an image of our artist looking at sunshine in the park and also the CD is covered with an image from the park. All platforms of my ancillary work are linked even more as the font is all the same. I used the style "Hatcheck" on my ancillary products in the colour white so it links it all together, I decided to use this font for both my digipak and magazine advert because I believe it links to the song as the font is like run down and damaged and this could be portrayed as emotional and our song is very emotional.

THE COLOUR SCHEME - HOW I HAVE LINKED MY MAIN PRODUCT TO MY ANCILLARY TEXTS

The clip above is part of my music video and shows how the setting is dark and white and black effects are in use which links the video to my ancillary work as it is a black and white theme (above)

THE CLOTHING - HOW I HAVE LINKED MY MAIN PRODUCT TO MY ANCILLARY TEXTS

The clip above is part of my music video and shows how the artist is wearing casual clothes throughout the music video, which links it to my ancillary work as the artist is wearing casual clothes(above)

THE ARTIST - HOW I HAVE LINKED MY MAIN PRODUCT TO MY ANCILLARY TEXTS

The clip above is part of my music video and shows how the artist is shown throughout the video and the use of close ups, this was done to promote the artist and as you can see on my ancillary texts(above), the large Image I have used to help promote the artist looks exactly like the last bit on the clip.

THE IMAGES - HOW I HAVE LINKED MY MAIN PRODUCT TO MY ANCILLARY TEXTS

The clip above is part of my music video and shows how the setting is dark and white and black effects are in use which links the video to my ancillary work(above)

THE FONT - HOW I HAVE LINKED MY MAIN PRODUCT TO MY ANCILLARY TEXTS

I have decided to keep all text the same for my digipak and magazine advert because I feel it could be a link of synergy. The font i used was "Hatcheck" which is quite unique therefore I believe people would be able to remember it and be interested in it. The main reason I chose this text was because it's like rundown/broken and stands out and as this song is quite emotional I thought it would suit it. I have challenged the convention as I decided to stay consistent with my                    text even though the conventions say you should use a different text.

THE LYRICS - HOW I HAVE LINKED MY MAIN PRODUCT TO MY ANCILLARY TEXTS

I have decided to include lyrics on my digipak so that it is linked with my main product. I have used most of the song including the chorus so when people see the lyrics on the digipak it will give them a visual image of the music video. By doing this I have created a link between the music video and my ancillary texts.

My use of Photoshop throughout the project

When we first got introduced to the ancillary production part of the project we had to have a practice go in creating the cover of a digipak using a random image. I am not that much of a fan of Photoshop as i rarely use it however i knew that we needed to use it to produce are digipak therefore i got straight to work on my practice digipak. I didn't really know what tools to use and how to use certain tools so i just kept trying them all out and seeing what there use is. The list below is what skills i have learnt during my use of Photoshop:
  1. Enlarging images without stretching them after importing them, you do this by holding "Alt"
  2. How to arrange layers and change different layers positions
  3. How to add effects such as black and white
  4. How to get rid of red eye
  5. How to add colours and change what colour is primary and secondary

Below is the progress I have made from my initial practice digipak cover to my final digipak cover. I feel as if I progressed hugely as I learnt how to use all the tools and when to use them.

Using Photoshop

Before using photoshop this year, I had minimal knowledge on how to use it. Therefore at the start I was struggling to use it to make my album cover how I want it to look and I also struggled to do things that I wanted to do. In order to be able to be able to do these things I had to explore and experiment with different tools and learn how to do things. Some of these skills I learnt were:

  • It is important to arrange your layers properly
  •  I learnt how to change the order of colours
  •  I learnt how to enlarge images without stretching it
  • I learnt how to make an image black and white
  • I learnt how to get rid of red eye
Before moving onto making my actual digipack, I used a template to explore and learn how to use photoshop:

I feel as if my photoshop skills have improved since then which has enabled me to be able to apply the new skills onto my digipack.

Using Photoshop

Using Photoshop

Before using photo shop for my digi pack i was not good at using it i lacked simple skill on how to use the different tools this is because i had no knowledge or experience in using this software. this made me struggle at the start not knowing how to use the soft ware i tried to do different things but found it difficult so i had to have assistance from my teacher and my peers after spending lots of time practising i started to get that hang of using photoshop and i was more fluent in editing and creating pictures.

Some skills I learnt:
- ensuring my layers were tidy so i can change around layers
- change colour schemes
- enlarge images with out stretching them
- how to get rid of red eye
- change the contrast of images

I used templates before starting my actual Digi pack to practise using mainstream artist to give me an idea of what to do for my work.

improving on feed back mag ad

Ive spent a lot of time re arranging my lay out till it looks suitable and untill there aren't unnecessary gaps

Improving on feed back inside

My previous Cd cover was to simple having a white background so i added a photo that suits my theme

improving on feed back front cover

After receiving my feed back i understood the reason for changing my photo on the front cover because my previous photo didn't show my artist clear enough, being a new artist it was vital to have a clear photo of him on the front cover so he can be identified, after changing my photo i found my cd cover more appealing

features

Due to the fact that I added features on my track list, it was important that I mention who will be featuring on the front cover.

Once I added it onto the front cover, I felt it didn't look as interesting as it should do so I added the designs I used earlier on my front cover so that it looks nicer and stands out.

Feed back on draft

Feed back on draft

Front cover: My media teacher had told me that my draft was okay he said it had a good structure and it also had the right information he also said the fonts suited the theme however he said in order to improve was to change my back cover photo around with my front cover so that the front cover has a clear picture of the artist

Inside: my teacher said it was generally okay but it would be better if i had a picture behind the cd

Magazine add: my teacher said it was consistent in comparison to my CD cover but he said i should play around with the payout till it looks the best

PRODUCTION - Target audience feedback

I thought it would be a good idea to get some audience feedback on my ancillary products. I will make improvements following this feedback is there is any constructive criticism
